"I'll have a side salad with my mobile app"

According to Wall Street Journal’s recent Technology Journal Report, 36 billion mobile apps will be downloaded to mobile devices in 2012 and that number is expected to almost quadruple in the next 5 years. By the end of this year, the average smartphone user will download over three dozen apps to their phones. At last count, over 600,000 apps are available through the Google Play store and 650,000 in the Apple app store. How many have you downloaded in just the last 2 months? Mobile apps exist today for making everyday activities more efficient or automated for nearly everything we can imagine as a consumer. But for the business world, especially for energy and manufacturing companies with complex field environments, off-the-shelf apps that model unique workflows don’t readily exist, and can’t be used simply out of the box. But it sure would enable companies to get higher productivity levels and secure a competitive advantage by leveraging the global mobile apps trend.

Mobile apps aren’t just for the consumer world. How do these companies take advantage of the trend? Ask your mobile solution provider about how they mirror your business processes and operational workflows in mobile apps. Providers that approach it from a deep understanding of your unique business processes are the ones that know that mobility is a must-have value for the enterprise, not just a nice-to-have collection of apps.
