BYOD is About Software, Not Just Devices

The rise of BYOD has been heralded for so many years now, it’s almost a cliché. But there’s no denying that BYOD has reached a tipping point, rapidly becoming the norm rather than the exception. In fact, a study completed by Global Information Inc. found that a full 65% of global companies polled will put in place at least limited BYOD policies by the end of the year.

Still, while the potential benefits of BYOD are clear when it comes to convenience and productivity, many of the old CIO and IT concerns about security and data integration remain. To allay these concerns, the move to BYOD should really be a two-fold shift that considers not just the devices themselves but also the software framework on which employees will do the majority of their work. This is where companies can retain control, funneling data into a few select systems, making full use of the cloud, and combining IT’s security efforts with that of software companies tasked with the sole purpose of doing just that.

With this dual policy in place, companies will have a much more integrated and secure transition into BYOD.
