Technical Writer

@hand is a growing enterprise mobile software company based in Austin, Texas. We are looking for a Technical Writer who will be responsible for managing various documentation projects. 

Responsibilities
  • Creates and maintains customer-facing technical manuals, user guides, implementation guides, and a specific subset of software training materials.
  • Writes additional text as needed, such as APIs, FAQs, and release notes.
  • Creates documentation and training in both online and portable formats.

Qualifications
  • Five years relevant work experience in researching and writing complete, accurate, and usable documentation including software training videos for various audiences: software developers, end-users, and non-technical.
  • Ability to manage multiple writing projects in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools, concepts, and procedures.
  • Ability to use applicable documentation standards, processes, tools and quality measures (in a Windows environment).
  • Familiarity with: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, webservers, web technologies, wikis, and blogs.
  • Proficiency with: Windows and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of the following concepts or topics: mobility software and hardware, .NET framework, IDEs, server/client relationships, relational databases, and middleware.
  • High proficiency in software used for screen casting (Camtasia, Captivate, or similar), graphics (SnagIt, Photoshop, Visio, or similar for charts, photos, and supporting graphics.

Experience (preferred)
  • Previous Instructional Design experience.
  • Experience with a CMS (Joomla, Drupal, Moodle, Blackboard, or similar).
  • Developing documentation in an Agile software environment.
  • Documenting enterprise-level products.
  • Curating documentation deliverables made up of a combination of edited and crowd-sourced content submitted by an open community of developers, administrators and users.
  • Oracle, Maximo, and/or SAP experience (user or administrator).
  • Ability to read and understand source code written in modern object-oriented languages (C#, C, C++, etc.).
